Name: Jackie
Age: You know this
Contact: Nadat on Plurk/Nadat#4647
Other Characters: Anders
Interests: I'm looking to have someone a lot more cheerful, for one, but Thor would be one to try to wade into politics and have a little weight to offer behind things. I want someone who would be happy to be on the front lines of fights for a change. I'm also interested in playing with the racial conflicts that comes from him being from the Imperium.

History

Canon history: http://marvelcinematicuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Thor

Thor is the firstborn son of Odin and Frigga of House Asgard.

His magic manifested when he was five and accidentally hit their aging steward with a small lightning zap. The following little zaps as the man scolded him and he giggled were absolutely not accidental - Thor was rather spoiled as a child. The spoiling continued as he was given the best instruction possible, particularly in primal magic.

By 16 Thor was fighting alongside his father's forces against qunari bands. While they tried to keep him to the back of the group for his own safety, Thor was aggressive and eager and often wound up on the front lines, slamming his staff into enemies just as readily as he flung lightning at them.

Shortly after his 19th birthday, Thor gained command of a small, elite team in Odin's army: himself, Sif, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg, and Loki. The two brother mages and four warriors made a devastating force in battles against the qunari, various southern lands, and the Darkspawn.

It gave Thor and Loki, his adopted brother, time to bond. Thor isn't even aware of the fact that Loki is adopted - one day his mother came out of the room and told him he had a little brother and he's never stopped to think about it. But as the two are very different in personality it's taken them time to find a working relationship. For a limited definition of working, because it also involved Thor being stabbed every now and then as a 'joke.'

Interested in cementing this slowly developing partnership into one that can last, with Loki serving as a loyal second son, Odin decided to send them both on a difficult mission that will also help his house's star rise - to work with allies who would help take out the Venatori threat to their country and house.

Personality

Thor is aggressively happy and aggressively arrogant, and they tie together. He's the first born son of a powerful house which gives him stability, authority, comfort, education, and security. When life is simple, being happy and proud is equally simple. This means he's also a little naive. He's had it easy for the most part and doesn't quite get why others can't figure out how to have it easy. Even when they got challenging, his father stepped back into his life before too long and rewarded Thor.

This arrogance also blends with ambition. His family has done well, and therefore they should continue to do well. While individual battles with qunari can be a challenge, the war as a whole seems like something that in time will be won because of course the Imperium will prevail. They're superior. He's superior.

But the ambition also means he works hard. Thor trains regularly and is diligent with staying on top of army positions and shifting house alliances so he can continue to keep himself and his house in shape, and he recognizes others who work hard. That's one of two fast paths to respect from him - diligence - with the other being someone who can hold their own against or alongside him on the field. Of course, either path generally requires someone to not be an elf or qunari.

What obviously follows is that Thor is racist. He hasn't been exposed to elves that aren't slaves or qunari who aren't trying to kill him. It seems the natural order of things to him, that the two races would be below humans and dwarves. While it's not purposefully malicious, he's blind to the concept of elves and qunari as individuals and people and acts accordingly. It also means that if an elf looks to be in distress or struggling through no fault of their own, Thor will step in and help because he doesn't expect them to have real agency or the ability to help themselves. One doesn't leave their horse struggling in a pit all alone, why would they leave their elf doing so? Which means he considers himself kind and considerate when it comes to elves - hey, guys, he doesn't beat them or use them as blood sacrifices or let others do so! That's totally considerate!

In fact, to humans and dwarves, he's genuinely considerate. Any (who aren't Templars, or Nevarran) are viewed as a potential friend-in-arms unless they prove otherwise. He gives them initial benefit of the doubt because he is a people person as far as Imperial culture goes. He wants to be friends. He just also believes in the Tevinter way with his whole heart and mind.

Opinions & Affiliations

Thor is very much anti-qunari, anti-Chantry, anti-Templars, and anti-Nevarra. He doesn't think himself anti-elves, but he does see them as a lesser race.

He views the Mage/Templar War as ridiculous, as mages should have won by now.

Dwarves and humans are the only people he really respects, though he's very curious about Rifters and doesn't buy the story that they're demons. That seems too easy.

He's nobility, presumed heir to his house, and is used to moving in those circles in Tevinter. Due to his time in another magister's army, though, he has more of a respect for the people of Tevinter and is starting to have a few doubts about slavery.

Adaptation Notes

While a lot of countries have noble families, it seemed important to keep Thor's association with thunder and lightning intact as well as give Loki opportunity to be a shapeshifter. They're big parts of the characters. The best way to have a family of mages with power and influence is to put them in Tevinter, and it fits Thor's arrogance well. The long standing conflict of frost giants versus asgardians fits in fairly well to the conflict of qunari versus Imperium too. No other two peoples hold quite the same level of animosity and capability for conflict.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: Magic (particularly primal magic,) combat, optimism, cheerfulness, finding a way when there doesn't seem to be one, confidence, really high alcohol tolerance, understanding the value of various resources and units in trade and on the field, being diplomatic when it's required.

Weaknesses: Rashness, haste, overconfidence, arrogance, naivete, stealth, underestimating qunari and elves, pushing past his own limits, trusting his brother a little too much.

Inventory

A lightning-enhancing staff
A battle hammer
Several sets of red and gold sleeveless robes with reinforced chests
Hair products
His favorite tankard, enchanted to keep what it holds cold
A lot of money from his father's estate
A ridiculous helmet with wings on it as well as the family crest

Motivation

Corypheus represents a threat to all of Thedas... and also an interesting possibility due to the magic he may know. Thor would like to help fight for Thedas but also see if he can't access some of that knowledge if the former magister has some sort of lair with books and such. The Venatori are also an issue, but a secondary one.

Also for as long as Corypheus is threatening human nations, they're not really focusing on the qunari threat as much as he feels they should.
